A Regional Civil contractor is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to work on a range of civil engineering projects across London, including Civil Infrastructure, Groundworks, Highways, and Structures.
We are looking for a degree-qualified candidate with at least two years of experience in the Civil Engineering industry and familiarity with NEC contracts.
Principal Duties & Accountabilities:
1. Understand the contractual requirements of project documents, including the roles and responsibilities of all involved and the notices required to record changes.
2. Coordinate any responses required with the Commercial Manager.
3. Liaise with the client, client representatives, and other third parties on commercial issues, including the agreement of additional funds.
4. Manage costs for the project or section of works.
5. Build and maintain customer confidence.
6. Understand allowances for elements of work (preliminaries, materials, subcontract, etc.).
7. Comprehend costs to the end of the reporting period and compare with allowances.
8. Understand forecast costs to completion.
9. Manage value for the project or section of works.
10. Prepare interim and final accounts.
11. Understand true value to the end of the reporting period and compare with actual costs expended.
12. Understand forecast final value at completion.
13. Manage changes for the section of works, including recording changes and allocation of responsibility.
14. Evaluate and recover any change that is not risk/liability, including recovery from third parties.
15. Manage risks and opportunities for the project or section of works.
16. Identify and implement mitigation measures.
17. Oversee procurement for the project or section of works.
18. Ensure all involved in procurement understand allowances for items they are responsible for and the procedures to be followed.
19. Maintain procurement schedules.
20. Prepare subcontract documentation, issue inquiries, and negotiate agreements, including interim and final accounts.
21. Conduct financial reporting for the project or section of works.
22. Prepare and issue monthly cost/value reconciliations and cost/forecast reconciliations.
23. Prepare cash forecasts and quarterly forecasts.
24. Support the Commercial Manager for the project.
25. Provide training and support for junior commercial staff and operational staff.
26. Identify, prepare, and negotiate claims.
27. Adhere to policies and procedures.
28. Perform ad hoc duties as required.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
1. Optimize commercial return on a section or whole project.
2. Control costs, value, cash management, change, and risk on a section or whole project.
3. Provide timely detailed reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager.
4. Support the commercial development of all staff within the job holder’s area of responsibility.
5. Ensure timely procurement of subcontractors in accordance with company procedures.
6. Contribute towards continued improvement within the business.
