A vacancy has arisen for an Attendance Officer to join the team at a large secondary school in Enfield. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate management and monitoring of attendance records, engaging with parents, carers, and external agencies to promote and improve student attendance. Key Duties and Responsibilities Administration Ensure that daily attendance registers are completed accurately, following up with staff regarding any incomplete data. Contact parents/carers to investigate unexplained absences, escalating issues as necessary in accordance with school procedures. Administer absence procedures, including sending letters, organising attendance clinics, and liaising with external agencies. Manage attendance data for the school census. Administer the process of issuing penalty notices to parents where appropriate. Facilitate referrals to the Educational Welfare Officer (EWO). Maintain detailed and accurate records of communications with parents/carers and any relevant interventions. Develop a thorough understanding of the school’s Management Information System (MIS), Arbor, and other applicable systems.Monitoring and Reporting Produce and interpret attendance reports for school leadership, highlighting key data, patterns of absence, and areas of concern. Monitor the attendance of vulnerable pupil groups, providing information to school leaders including Heads of Year and the Safeguarding Team. Identify students requiring additional support to improve attendance and recommend appropriate interventions. Conduct regular progress reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of attendance support measures. Collaborate with school leaders to revise and enhance the school’s attendance policy and procedures. Implement children missing education (CME) protocols where necessary. Initiate home visits for families with no contact over three days. Provide reports to external attendance organisations regarding at-risk pupils.Working with Parents and Carers Coordinate and attend meetings with parents, carers, and students to implement attendance improvement strategies and monitor progress. Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers to foster family involvement in supporting their child’s attendance. Identify and address potential barriers to attendance in collaboration with families.Professional Development Continue to develop skills, qualifications, and experience relevant to the role, with support from the school.
