A little more about your role…
* This interesting and challenging Assistant Environmental Consultant role in our Water Consulting team will involve supporting project delivery and managing your own work packages. This technical role is primarily servicing the onshore energy and highway sectors in Scotland and across the UK, with potential opportunities to operate in other sectors.
* Technical report writing is expected, including preparing internal and external documents to support client projects, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and related technical publications.
* Fieldwork surveys are a key aspect of this role, including safety preparations and efficient organisation and delivery of site work. These are often in remote locations across all seasons, with an expectation of regular overnight trips away from home.
* Use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are an important aspect of the typical workload, for fieldwork preparation, data analysis, and figure production.
* Success will be demonstrated in terms of the technical quality of deliverables, meeting client and stakeholder requirements, whilst understanding and working safely within financial and programme requirements.
* There may also be the opportunity to work with the wider Water team on tasks such as flood risk and hydromorphological assessments.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
* A degree in a Water / Environmental Management related discipline.
* The capability to contribute to successful teams and also be confident in managing your own workload.
* Report-writing skills relevant to the water environment discipline and be able to provide evidence of this track record.
* Familiarity and confidence with a variety of software packages and ideally a competent user of GIS software.
* Flexibility with regard to working away from the office base on a regular basis, familiarity with safe working practices in remote outdoor locations, and capability of undertaking fieldwork requiring a reasonable level of fitness.
* A full UK driving licence.
* Candidates are sought with previous relevant experience, particularly those with skills in specific disciplines, such as EIA reporting, sustainable drainage systems, highway discharge assessment, CAR licensing, hydrogeology, hydrology, water quality, fluvial geomorphology, site environmental management, peat surveys, peat stability, peat management, and pollution prevention.
* Awareness of the EIA regulations and/or the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges in relation to the water environment. You will also have an up-to-date knowledge of related UK and Scottish environmental legislation and best practice guidance.
