Deputy Sister Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for a Deputy Sister to provide clinical leadership in promoting the development of neonatal care in partnership with the family and multi-professional team, assessing, planning and implementing care and maintaining confidential accurate patient records.
Neonatal Unit Basingstoke is a 14 cots unit and considered level 2 that caters for the need of babies born early @ 30 weeks of gestation and above. We have 2 intensive cots, 2 high care cots and 10 special care cots. We work closely with Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Network and actively participate in study days and meetings to keep us up to date with the latest changes in neonatal nursing care.
To facilitate a philosophy of family-centred care within the neonatal unit for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
Accountable for own professional actions guided by Trust and unit policies and procedural guidelines.
To attend deliveries as part of the multi-professional resuscitation team.
To communicate highly sensitive and condition-related information to parents/relatives where there are barriers to understanding.
Ensure the maintenance of confidential, accurate, up-to-date patient records.
To comply with Health and Safety Regulations by prompt identification and reporting of adverse environmental conditions, adverse incidents, equipment failure and accidents appropriately.
To maintain Data Protection, Confidentiality and Health and Safety according to Child Health Policy and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Foundation Trust Guidelines.
To ensure efficiency in the ordering and use of supplies.
To participate at a senior level in the overall operational management of the neonatal unit.
To make effective use of manpower resources through participating in rosters and skill mix review.
To liaise with the multi-professional team in planning for new equipment and participate in the review of new equipment on trial.
To be responsible for the ongoing appraisal of designated junior staff and students taking into account both their individual development needs and their contribution to the Child Health Business Plan and Neonatal Unit Objectives.
