Do you have a proven track record in influencing key government authorities and decision makers?
Do you have experience in working directly with young people to develop innovative and new politically focused campaigns, in charities or other organisations?
Are you a driven, collaborative leader who wants to shape and significantly grow The Children’s Society’s impact and reach of our campaigns?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for two ambitious Campaigns Managers to join our dynamic and ambitious policy, advocacy and influencing team.
Permanent contract (following 6-month probation period), working full time (35 hours a week).
Salary: £37,646.16 per annum (London) / £34,837.08 per annum (National)
The role can be situated in our The Children’s Society’s national office at Whitecross Studios, Old Street, London, or one of our regional offices (currently in Birmingham and Greater Manchester), with hybrid working options available. Alternatively, home-based by arrangement with the ability to frequently travel to the national office and other venues as required.
The Children’s Society is clear on the impact it wants to create for young people – directly through our services for young people and through our systems change and influencing work at all levels in society.
The Campaigns Managers are part of the Policy, Advocacy and Influencing Knowledge Group – a team of people who work hard to influence government policy for the benefit of young people through astute public affairs and campaigning.
The Campaigns Manager sets the direction for our campaigns, both online and offline, internally and externally. Supported by the Knowledge Group, you will have full creativity and leadership on thinking through new ways of raising awareness, influencing the government, and bringing in new supporters, including organising training, stunts, events etc. The role will work with colleagues across the organisation, working with youth voice, digital, storytelling, media, and mobilisation colleagues to conceptualise and develop campaigns that are grounded in our policy areas of mental health and wellbeing, adolescent risk and vulnerability, and child poverty and inequality.
The role will include regular horizon scanning of the political environment and active listening to colleagues that deliver services to young people across The Children’s Society, to ensure that both online and offline campaign strategies are working to support the reversing of the damaging decline.
Integrated working with colleagues across our impact domain is essential, for example with those who lead on external communications and messaging, bringing together compelling evidence to drive change – in public awareness and attitudes, and in policies and systems – that can improve young people’s lives.
Our charity has been campaigning for political change for young people for years, we have an excellent track record, and have had a number of policy successes, reaching young people way beyond the boundaries of our charity. We work well in collaboration with other charities, especially children’s charities – the role holder will lead our strategic partnerships and external coalitions to build our external presence and collaboration opportunities.
With your energy, enthusiasm and passion to make a difference in young people’s lives, you will be responsible for developing and implementing campaigns on key issues affecting young people across the UK.
Key responsibilities will be to:
1. Deliver compelling, high-quality, creative and effective campaign strategies grounded in the need to make real political change, and influence policy, practice and public attitudes at a local and national level that are aligned to our 2030 Goal.
2. Building innovative and creative bespoke online and offline actions targeting key political decision makers that will make the most effective change for children and young people locally.
3. Deliver effective project management of campaigns, drawing stakeholders together to problem solve and work on issues. Regular monitoring and reporting and that key risks and resource constraints are anticipated and resolved.
4. Respond effectively to short-term opportunities for reactive political campaigning activity to maximise impact, build on opportunities to be generous leaders through local and national partnerships and alliances.
5. Report on campaign key performance indicators and outcome measures, and contribute to improvement in demonstrating the impact of campaigning through the Impact Measurement Framework. Actively share learning within the organisation.
The Children’s Society ensures that youth voice is central to its work and drives its strategic objectives. The post holder will be expected to develop youth voice activity throughout our work, upholding the highest standards of promoting safe and ethical practice.
Campaigning is one way of how we make the biggest impact for young people. The campaign managers will need to support and participate in integrated approaches across the organisation– to ensure consistent messaging and to increase our external profile, brand and support network – to widen the reach and impact of our charity.
Here are just some of our benefits:
* Flexible working hours: 8 to 4, 9 to 5, 10 to 6, or in between (to be agreed with your manager).
