There is an exciting opportunity to join staff at Emily Wilding Davison School as a middle leader, leading our new Autism Base area. In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will teach a base class. We aim to appoint a middle leader who will plan and deliver creative and inspirational lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4, focusing on core subjects, and supporting students with Social and Emotional Mental Health needs. Students follow the national curriculum with bespoke pathways. We seek a leader with a range of skills and experiences to complement the school’s ethos of excellence.
Emily Wilding Davison School opened in September 2022 in Ponteland, moving from Atkinson House School in Seghill. We are a co-educational secondary school for students with SEMH needs, serving pupils from all areas of Northumberland, with a capacity of 100.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist the Head teacher and SLT in providing professional leadership and management
* Enhance pupil achievement and standards within your team, ensuring high-quality education aligned with the school’s ethos
* Collaborate with staff to promote continuity of provision and practice
* Oversee assessment, recording, and reporting tailored to students’ needs
* Maintain the school’s positive ethos and ensure equality of opportunity
* Contribute to team building among staff, parents, and governors
* Lead professional development initiatives
* Line manage teaching staff, ensuring appraisal targets are met
Assessment and Planning:
* Utilize various assessment methods to inform teaching and support
* Maintain up-to-date assessment records
* Ensure curriculum balance and relevance
* Prepare assessment reports and data for reviews and evaluations
* Develop EHCP targets aligned with student needs
* Identify assessment gaps and seek advice as needed
* Evaluate curricular priorities periodically
* Assist in school target setting through assessments
Effective Teaching:
* Understand the curriculum rationale and school aims
* Adapt teaching styles to learners
* Plan and coordinate engaging lessons
* Create stimulating and structured learning environments
* Address barriers to learning and modify resources accordingly
* Implement self-evaluation strategies for pupils
Team Management and Participation:
* Clarify roles and responsibilities within your team
* Set and monitor appraisal targets
* Ensure documentation and trackers are maintained
* Supervise work of teaching assistants and volunteers
* Coordinate contributions to school activities
* Manage behavioral issues and provide coaching
* Participate in planning and meetings, meeting deadlines
* Ensure effective communication and consistency
* Log incidents and follow emergency procedures
* Engage in performance management processes
