Senior/Principle Proposal Engineer
About the Role
The Senior/Principle Proposal Engineer will be responsible for providing technical input into the production of tender engineering drawings and documents, including single line diagrams, substation layouts, primary BoQ, earthing layouts, interlock BoQ, busbar and clamp BoQ, multicore cable schedules, and interfacing with power system studies and civil information. The role involves ensuring compliance with design specifications, programs, budgets, and safety requirements, as well as managing allocated personnel.
How You’ll Make an Impact
* Support primary engineering to develop common engineering solutions and processes across tenders and develop safe working solutions for the substation lifecycle.
* Ensure production of engineering drawings/documents to specifications, schedule, budget, and quality standards, taking responsibility for technical issues with team members.
* Compile Bills of Quantities with associated costs.
* Support the approval process of engineering technical specifications.
* Conduct technical evaluation of supplier quotations.
* Contribute to deviations and clarifications during tender phases.
* Provide technical support and guidance to primary engineers.
* Participate in HAZID reviews as required.
* Respond to non-conformances through the NCR+ process.
* Coordinate with other departments on tenders.
* Attend site visits during tender phases.
* Participate in technical meetings with clients and on-site teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
* Identify and communicate business opportunities within tenders/projects.
* Gain product and site knowledge through visits to UK sites and German factories.
* Support attendance at client policy and best practice meetings, providing feedback.
* Implement new tools, designs, products, and process improvements.
* Assist in the professional development of proposals staff.
What You Bring
* HNC/Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
* Extensive experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry, including UK Transmission System experience.
* Knowledge of latest transmission and distribution standards and technologies for HV substations.
* Understanding of health and safety standards, including CDM regulations, applicable to HV substation design.
* Flexible approach to design solutions.
* Strong decision-making skills.
* Self-motivated, proactive, and positive attitude.
* Experience in leadership, providing guidance to team members and trainees.
* Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet.
* Ability to interpret and communicate technical information in English.
* Leadership qualities to manage, motivate, and inspire others.
* Capability to coach/mentor engineers.
* Experience in preparing and delivering technical presentations.
* Customer-focused with good management skills.
