Are you an experienced and compassionate educator looking to make a meaningful impact? We are currently seeking a dedicated LAC Tutor to support Looked After Children (LAC) across the Middlesbrough area, delivering 1:1 tuition to help them re-engage with education and achieve their potential.
About the Role:
This role involves providing personalised tuition to Looked After Children who may be out of school, in care, or facing barriers to learning. You will be supporting them in core subjects (typically English, Maths or Science) in a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment - often outside a traditional classroom setting (e.g., in foster placements, residential homes, or community venues).
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver 1:1 tuition tailored to the student’s academic needs, level, and learning style
* Build trust and rapport with vulnerable young people, creating a positive learning atmosphere
* Plan and deliver engaging lessons that align with the UK curriculum
* Monitor and report on student progress, working closely with carers, social workers, and virtual school teams
* Adapt teaching strategies to support SEMH, SEND, or trauma-informed approaches
What We’re Looking For:
* Teaching or tutoring experience, preferably with vulnerable or disadvantaged young people
* Strong subject knowledge (particularly in English, Maths, or Science)
* Understanding of the challenges faced by Looked After Children
* A Child Workforce Only Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service or willingness to apply)
* Empathy, patience, and the ability to work independently
