CONSULTANT NEUROLOGIST POST REF NO: SC201360 Applications are invited for our Consultant Neurologist position based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, to join the existing team of 9 (7 FTE) Consultants. The post has funding for five PAs. The Neurology Department works closely with the Department of Neurosurgery (five consultants), supported by Neuroradiology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuropathology, Liaison Psychiatry, Neuropsychology and a Neurorehabilitation team. We have dedicated, skilled specialist nurses that work alongside clinicians. A diverse multi-disciplinary team manages patients in our 10 bedded, dedicated Neurology ward and there is a patient infusion unit for patients on regular intravenous treatments treated as outpatients. Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is a teaching hospital with strong links to two Universities in Aberdeen and there are excellent opportunities for successful applicants to develop teaching and research interests. This is an additional post for the service. It is envisaged that a part-time appointee will be employed on a 5 PA session contract (4 direct clinical care plus 1 supporting professional activity) and will undertake two neurology outpatient clinics per week including general neurology and a subspecialty clinic. The preferred subspecialty interest would be in nerve and muscle disorders but other specialist interests could also be developed. The appointee(s) will take part in an on-call rota on a pro-rata basis. Currently full-time members of staff provide cover for in-patients and emergencies 1 week in 7.5 and do evening and weekends on call 1 in 7.5. The appointee(s) will contribute to undergraduate teaching, postgraduate education, training and supervision of Neurology specialty trainees and departmental administration. Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post). Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
