Job Title: Senior Residential Childcare Worker
Location: Derby, Littleover/Mickleover
Service / Department: Children's Residential Care Home
Reporting to: Registered Manager
Our client is a dedicated and supportive organisation committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children and young people aged 1-18 who have experienced emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). This Ofsted-registered residential home in Derby provides high-quality care, enabling our young people to thrive and reach their full potential.
The Role:
As a Senior Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day running of our home. You will lead and motivate a team of skilled care workers, ensuring the delivery of exceptional care, protection, and support to young people. Key Responsibilities:
* Providing Quality Care: Deliver high standards of care, protection, and support to children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, following individual care plans.
* Team Leadership: Organise and oversee the team of care workers, planning and delegating tasks effectively during shifts.
* Shift Management: Take a lead role in the day-to-day activities of the home, ensuring smooth and efficient operations during your shifts.
* Safeguarding: Effectively safeguard all children and young people within the home, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
* Incident Management: Oversee any incidents that occur in the home whilst on shift, ensuring appropriate action is taken and documented.
* Promoting a Positive Environment: Help promote a stimulating, caring, and culturally appropriate environment for the children and young people.
* Teamwork: Work collaboratively with fellow team members and other professionals to provide holistic support.
* Practical and Emotional Support: Provide practical and emotional support to young people, enabling their physical, psychological, emotional, and recreational development.
* Key Working: Act as a key worker for at least one child/young person, building positive relationships and advocating for their needs.
* Financial Management: Manage the finances of your key child, ensuring responsible and transparent handling of funds.
* Service Delivery:
o Support young people with their leisure interests and skill development, both within and outside the home.
o Participate in house shopping with young people where possible, promoting independence.
o Help young people to make informed choices and participate in decision-making.
o Implement personal care plans, assisting with daily routines and personal care as needed.
o Assist with day care activities and educational support.
o Communicate effectively with other staff regarding young people's needs, activities, and progress.
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the home's diary system.
o Facilitate regular Service User meetings, encouraging young people's participation.
o Help ensure that each young person's health needs are met, including liaising with medical services and implementing medication procedures.
o Conduct key working sessions, developing co-key workers, and carrying out risk assessments and reviews.
* People Management:
o Establish positive and trusting relationships with children and young people, their families, friends, and advocates.
o Work closely and professionally with external professionals such as GPs, Consultants, and Social Workers.
o Lead and work cooperatively with colleagues, using your own initiative and contributing to a positive team dynamic.
Terms and Conditions:
* Hours: Alternate week shift pattern (includes sleep-ins/on-call), averaging 40 hours per week plus sleep-ins.
* Salary: £34,070 to £36,150 per annum (OTE, inclusive of sleep-in payments).
* Holidays: 14 days per annum plus Bank Holidays initially, with additional days following years of service.
* Employment Status: Full Time
* * Shift Bonus: £300.
Qualifications and Education:
* Essential: NVQ Level 3 in Children & Young People or Level 4 Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or QCF Level 4 Children, Young People & Families Practitioner qualified.
* Essential: Full UK driving licence.
Experience:
* Essential: Minimum of 3 years' experience working with children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) in a residential care setting.
