We're looking for an experienced Staff Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join our Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at Sheffield Children's Hospital. Our priority is keeping children and families at the heart of everything we do. We deliver expert care through motivated, compassionate, and skilled teams.
You will support junior staff, working with Band 6 colleagues, leading the team, and deputising for the Clinical Lead.
You will be a dedicated and enthusiastic person with experience in paediatrics or post-anaesthetic care, and keen to develop your leadership skills.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Ward/Unit Manager, your responsibilities will include:
1. Provide patient care following NMC/HCPC standards.
2. Plan and implement care for assigned patient groups, considering individual needs.
3. Be a patient advocate, ensuring safety and well-being.
4. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team for seamless care delivery.
5. Support junior colleagues, offering guidance and development opportunities.
6. Help the Clinical Lead manage the department, including deputising in their absence, and representing them at meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
* Degree or Diploma Level Education as Registered Nurse (RN Child, RNLD or RSCN)
* Willingness to undertake Leadership/Management training
* Teaching, Mentoring and Assessors qualification
* Current registration with NMC
* Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
* Willingness to undertake study at degree level
* Relevant Post Basic registration Course Leadership and Management training
Experience
* Significant staffing experience within paediatrics and evidence of competencies achieved to move to a Band 6, e.g. completion of Competency Pathway at SC NHS FT
* Mentoring experience with nursing students and one-to-one teaching of junior staff
* Ability to demonstrate a commitment to professional development
* Staffing experience within speciality
* Relevant project work
* Understanding of budgetary or resource management
Knowledge
* Role of Senior Staff Nurse and ability to work within and lead a team
* Understanding of the clinical governance agenda
* Experience of undertaking the audit process
* Health, Safety and Risk awareness
* Awareness of resource management
* Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Moving and Handling, Sharps, COSHH, Information Governance
* Responsibility for safe practices of Infection Control principles
* Principles of Safeguarding of children & training to Level 3
* Experience in Nursing Speciality of ward or department
* Able to demonstrate involvement and understanding of the Research process
* Current certificates to show relevant study and e-learning
* Ability to undertake Personal Development reviews for junior staff
