We have a fantastic opportunity to work in the North East Probation Service. Probation Service Officers work in both Magistrates and Crown Courts across the North East Region.
We are offering a full time Probation Service Officer post based within our Courts in Middlesbrough, Durham, Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee; staff may be required to cover our Court teams in Newcastle, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Northumberland
The role requires excellent communication skills, flexibility, competent use of IT platforms, teamwork and the ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
The post holder will undertake the full range of tasks with people appearing in Court and on Probation, including assessing and producing formal verbal and written reports. Attendance and presentation of information to the Court will be expected.
This will cover a range of assessments including pre-sentence and bail information. An ability to gather information and analyse at pace will be essential.
The post holder will work collaboratively with Probation colleagues and with a range of partners and stakeholders, building essential links with HMCTS, the Judiciary, Treatment providers, Electronic Monitoring and other criminal justice partners.
The successful candidate will be expected to cover all of the NE Region in times of sickness/annual leave so must be flexible
New entrants to the Civil Service will be expected to join at the entry point salary for the advertised band
Existing Civil Servants will have their salary calculated in accordance with the Department’s pay on transfer / pay on promotion rules.
This post is currently advertised without VISOR Vetting to enable appointment to take place as soon as possible, however, VISOR vetting will be required to be completed in due course.
Overview of the job
The job holder will undertake the full range of work with people on probation before and after sentence. This will include assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and producing reports. The job holder will provide case management support to a full range of people on probation utilising service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgement.
Summary
To assess and manage the risk (including risk management plans and escalation) posed by people on probation to protect victims of crime and the general public by:
• Liaising, providing information and advice to criminal courts, criminal justice agencies and other partner agencies.
• Supervise and manage risk of those people on probation subject to community sentences, during and after custodial sentences.
• Work with other agencies and groups to prevent crime and meet the needs of victims and people on probation.
