The Percy Hedley Foundation is one of the largest regional charities supporting people with a range of learning and physical needs. We take a person centred, flexible approach to the care and support we provide. Our sites are based in Forest Hall, Killingworth, and Jesmond.
We work towards excellence every day and our team members are committed to delivering the very best outcomes for the people we support. Our dynamic and flexible service is tailored to the specific needs of the individual, making it easier to live, learn and be part of a world adapting to change.
The Role
Please note due to the current demands of the service this requirement is for female staff only in order to provide support to female residents.
We are looking for a Waking Nights Support Worker with a passion for helping people to join our team at Tyne House on a permanent basis. Tyne House is a residential site with 10 specialist rooms, offering tailored support to individuals with specific and complex needs.
As part of the team at Tyne House, you will support our residents with hearing impairments in their ongoing development and daily living. You will ensure their needs are met by following support plans and providing practical and emotional care, enabling further independence and achieving positive outcomes.
Residents communicate through BSL, VOCA's, word boards, print symbols, and pictures. Successful candidates will encourage and promote effective communication for all our residents.
You will assist our residents with daily household tasks such as shopping, cooking, tidying, and washing. Support with medication administration and personal care tasks will also be required. There will be times when residents need help managing behaviours of concern, and training will be provided as needed.
Residents are encouraged to be part of the community, and staff support them to access social events and activities such as the local pub, deaf community groups, bowling, and swimming.
It is a high-energy and friendly service with a focus on delivering the highest standard of person-centred care. As the newest member of our amazing team, you will have a proactive approach and be an excellent communicator. A great sense of humour and an understanding of positive behaviour support are important assets.
To be successful, you will have prior experience in a care setting and understand the importance of routine and structure for our residents. You’ll be committed to inspiring the people you support and helping make a positive difference in their lives.
This service provides round-the-clock residential care, so you must be fully flexible Monday - Sunday.
If you think you have what it takes to join our team, we would love to hear from you.
At Percy Hedley, we encourage career development and progression. We run a robust training programme and have development opportunities across the wider Foundation.
