A Laboratory Technician can be found in many industries including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and construction. The broad purpose of the occupation is working at the forefront of technology to carry out both routine and one-off laboratory testing in a controlled environment. The Lab Technician interacts and supports various departments, such as manufacturing, procurement, and quality to make sure that the product being produced is to the highest quality, H&S compliant, and cost effective. The types of products produced and tested may include materials such as concrete and asphalt. The materials may be currently in use or part of an R&D project. As well as this, the technician will be responsible for keeping accurate records, maintenance checks of equipment, and working to both company, legal, and industry standards (UKAS, ISO, NRA, BS) and will be supervised by an assigned mentor / supervisor. The role is site/plant based and will involve manual work in busy work environments. Duties typically include: Supporting the testing and sampling of various materials to be used on site; Maintain a safe and tidy workspace and ensure the efficient running of the laboratory; Maintain quality standards by following Company and accrediting bodies quality procedures and protocol; Record sample details on test record sheets and laboratory software; Calibrating testing equipment and reporting any faults and damages and regular checks set out by management; Support inspections and auditing; Investigate material related complaints, providing solutions and feedback to internal and external stakeholders; Keeping up to date records of company, legal, industry changes to policy and regulations; Working to a high level of H&S, environmental compliance, and quality assurance. Typical Working Week 40 hours p/w with start time between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college. The candidate should understand that although this is not a physically intense role, they will be on their feet for most of the day and executing manual handling tasks.
