About the role
We are seeking an Assistant Director (Major Projects) to join our Estates team in a key leadership role.
The Capital Projects Programme team is responsible for managing the delivery of all capital works across the UCL Estate, from inception through to operational phases. This includes new builds, refurbishment, adaptation, as well as infrastructure and public realm works. Our projects are bespoke facilities designed and constructed to industry-leading standards.
The AD (Major Projects) will be responsible for leading the completion of several key projects currently in delivery, as well as bringing forward pipeline projects within the portfolio.
Major projects currently in delivery within the Capital Programme include:
1. Project Oriel, the new £m Moorfields Eye Hospital JV with our Institute of Ophthalmology
2. The Institute of Neurology, Dementia Research Institute (ION-DRI), a £m a new landmark facility at Grays Inn Road.
3. Bloomsbury Heat and Power Network
4. Greys Inn Road masterplan, future phases
5. UCL East Masterplan, future phases
In this role, you will be responsible for working with stakeholders and project partners developing and delivering projects, with the support of your consultant and project management staff who will work under your guidance to deliver projects across the UCL Estate.
About you
You will be an experienced professional with a formal qualification in an engineering or construction discipline, supported by degree-level education or a qualification to meet PAS, and membership in a relevant professional body. With expertise across the built environment lifecycle, you provide strategic and technical advice at a senior level and have a proven track record in leading major capital projects in complex urban settings.
A skilled people leader, you excel in managing high-performing teams and fostering a proactive safety culture. Your strengths include strategic planning, procurement, contract management, and delivering innovative outcomes in areas such as safety, sustainability, and inclusivity.
With exceptional communication and leadership skills, coupled with a collaborative approach and strong technical expertise, you are adept at delivering results in challenging, high-profile environments.
