Big C, as a regional charity, is dedicated to supporting anyone affected by cancer in Norfolk and neighbouring counties.
We are offering student counselling placements with Big C at our Support and Information Centres in Norwich (Dereham Road and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital); the opportunity to gain clinical hours while providing person-centred counselling support to our adult service users whose lives have been affected by cancer.
The majority of your work will be carried out face to face, but from time to time sessions may occur virtually, so online and phone training and a basic understanding of Zoom is required. We would be looking for a commitment of one day a week for the duration of your placement.
To be suitable for this placement you must:
* Be studying on a Counselling/Psychotherapy training course that results in a recognised qualification at a minimum of Diploma level.
* Hold student registration with BACP and work within their ethical framework.
* Be assessed by your tutor as ready to work with clients, including working remotely is desirable.
* Have completed a minimum of 50 hours of clinical hours.
* Arrange and undertake appropriate professional supervision on a regular basis.
* Have an enhanced DBS (undertaken by Big C).
* Be able to work with people whose lives have been affected by cancer.
* Have excellent communication skills.
* Be non-judgemental.
Big C's Core Values are Respect, Empathy, Support, Trust, and Honesty. They provide a benchmark for behaviour across the organisation. If you share these values and have a passion for wanting to make a difference to people's wellbeing, we would love to hear from you.
Benefits of the placement include:
* Working alongside our professional team in the Big C Support and Information Centres.
* Gaining clinical experience and practice with a highly regarded local charity.
* Clients triaged prior to appointment allocation by Big C.
* Appointment coordination managed on your behalf.
* Refreshments available.
* Reimbursement of reasonable and agreed travel costs.
* Regular support and communication with Big C’s counselling team.
