Clinical Support Worker - Palliative Care Goscote Hospice
We are currently looking for a permanent Clinical Support Worker who is enthusiastic and motivated to join the community-based 12 bedded Goscote Hospice.
You must be caring, compassionate, reliable, and have a genuine interest in working within Goscote Hospice based at Walsall Palliative Care Centre, Goscote Lane Walsall WS3 1SJ. These roles primarily provide direct clinically individualized and focused care for the patients. Sensitivity is a key component of these roles as you support patients and carers during highly emotional times. These roles will focus on caring for patients with life-limiting conditions that are approaching the end of their life or requiring symptom control.
You will need to work a flexible approach in the service which includes long days (7am - 7.30pm) and night shifts (7pm - 7.30am), including weekends and bank holidays as the service demands.

Main Duties of the Job
* Assist in undertaking activities of living in accordance with the care plan prescribed by qualified staff. These duties will include the delivery of hygiene care, nutrition and hydration, continence care, pressure area care, mobility and rehabilitation, and offering psychological support.
* Assist in the taking and recording of patients' observations.
* Report changes to patients' health status to trained nurses for action.
* Support registered nursing staff with clinical treatments and investigations as appropriate, to the level of knowledge and skill. This may include the escort of patients to other departments within the centre and, on occasion, to other departments and specialist units off-site.
* Support patients with care after death.
There will be opportunities for personal training and development in line with the Trust resources and requirements.

Job Responsibilities

In addition to the clinical element of this role, there are also other essential components that the jobholder will be required to fulfil.
* Assist in the maintenance of general clerical activities to support the clinical environment and patient care. These duties will include answering the telephone, taking and passing on messages to the relevant person, filing, keeping patients' bedside records tidy, etc.
* Support registered nursing staff in ensuring communication systems meet the needs of patients, carers, and staff. This will include referring carers and visitors to the appropriate trained nurse and adhering to the Trust's complaint procedure.
* Maintain confidentiality in relation to patients regarding information obtained either verbally, written, or electronically. Person Specification
Qualifications
* Must have completed Level II HCA training or be willing to undertake NVQ training.
Knowledge
* Applicants must be literate and numerate, and good communication skills are important.
Experience
* Skills and abilities in care necessary for the safe and effective performance of the job.
* Experience of working within Palliative care or caring for patients at the end of life.
