The Councils Countryside Team manages over 250 hectares of land within the District of Cannock Chase including a Site of Special Scientific Interest, three Local Nature Reserves, Local Wildlife Sites, and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Habitats include woodland, heathland, wetland, and species rich grassland and some are grazed by our own herd of Dexter cattle. The sites are predominantly urban or urban fringe in nature. The primary role of the team is to ensure that these sites are maintained to a high standard both for wildlife conservation purposes and informal public recreation.
We are looking for a Senior Countryside Officer to lead, manage and promote the Countryside Service through working with other Council departments, partners, relevant organisations, other professionals and members of the public including volunteers, with the overall aim of protecting and enhancing the conservation status and distinctive habitats of the Countryside sites, whilst balancing the requirement for public access and management.
You should have considerable experience of countryside and habitat management and managing staff and volunteers.
In addition, you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills being able to communicate clearly and effectively face to face, by telephone or other means, whilst demonstrating courtesy and tact in dealing with to a wide range of people.
Possession of a valid full UK driving licence is an essential requirement.
