The Head of Construction role will be a part-time fixed term contract to provide support on leadership and management of the delivery function ensuring effective resource and cost management across the Electrification operational portfolios during a growth and diversification period for the business. Additionally, the role will provide leadership to the E&P portfolio ensuring continued successful delivery of projects and continued growth within the portfolio. The role collaborates across EL to achieve 'best for business' outcomes.
You'll make an impact by
1. Manage the Construction Cost Centre engaging with the business leaders to ensure suitable resourcing and utilisation targets are achieved.
2. Support the Leadership team in the successful delivery of strategic projects to improve business outcomes.
3. Actively contribute to work winning for the business working with the business development team to actively identify suitable opportunities and support with the bid team to secure contracts in line with EL's business targets.
4. Develop high-performing teams and allocate sufficient resources to deliver EL projects or packages of work within various contractual structures including joint ventures, consortia, alliances, and as a single contractor.
5. Foster collaboration and support strategy execution across EL and the wider SMO business, always acting in the best interest of the business to ensure a sustainable and successful business.
6. Line manage construction staff within the portfolio and work with the relevant business functional leads to ensure competency and effective utilisation of those resources.
7. Ensure continuous improvement of Construction processes and procedures and undertake readiness reviews of key works as necessary or directed by the EL Senior Leadership Team.
8. Support and Mentor the E&P Portfolio Manager to strategically lead the growth aspirations for the E&P portfolio through securing and delivering E&P projects through the wider RI business - Signalling, CIS and Control Systems perspective.
9. Lead business development for E&P Portfolio for external opportunities for heavy and light rail works.
10. Create a unified approach of the E&P team to ensure effective use of resources across the RI business.
11. Lead the creation of strategic supply chain and industry partnerships to support all EL portfolios.
12. Support E&P Portfolio Manager to direct and lead other staff assigned to the portfolio (e.g. commercial, finance, planning, engineering, test and commissioning) and work with the relevant business functional leads to ensure effective resource utilisation.
13. Work with the Head of Design and Engineering Delivery to develop a permanent E&P design capability to support the business requirements with a clear succession plan and ELT programme to support future growth.
14. Support and mentor the E&P Portfolio Manager in the Leadership of the E&P Portfolio to ensure all works are delivered safely on schedule, to forecast, achieve the required quality and attain the customer's satisfaction and that of other interested parties (stakeholders).
15. Lead in line with Siemens values and in compliance with the Business Conduct Guidelines.
16. Provide periodic strategic and programme business reports.
17. Ensure compliance with company procedures for allocated works.
18. Represent the company at meetings as required with the client, main contractor, project professional team and other relevant decision-makers and stakeholders.
19. Develop and maintain a network of relevant industry contacts.
20. Undertake any other duties and/or responsibilities that may be advised from time to time to meet the ongoing, changing or developing needs of the business.
21. Interface with senior representatives within our customers' organisations to support project execution.
22. Foster a culture of continuous improvement to maintain and enhance the market position of our portfolios.
Your success will be grounded by
1. Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities.
2. Significant project and business management experience within the UK rail industry (ideally a minimum of 10 years).
3. Understanding and technical appreciation of the UK railway and electrification disciplines is desirable.
4. Strong commercial aptitude & awareness.
5. Good IT skills, particularly with common Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
6. Strong management skills & ability in terms of written & verbal communication; presentation skills; problem identification, categorisation and solving; people skills; customer management; negotiation skills and change management.
7. Strong leadership and motivational skills.
