Assistant / Associate / Full Professor of Disease Ecology
The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment (CFWE) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Auburn University invite applications for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position to expand our research strengths in vertebrate disease ecology. Auburn University is located in one of the most ecologically diverse states in the US and is surrounded by numerous cultural and historic features in nearby Montgomery, Birmingham, and Atlanta. These nearby cities offer an abundance of work and recreational opportunities. In addition, CFWE and CVM maintain strong collaborations with CDC scientists, emphasizing the establishment of formal and long-term research. This is a 9-month tenure-track position with a 75%/25% research/teaching appointment, and a 75%/25% split appointment between CFWE and CVM. The successful candidate for this joint position will establish a strong and externally funded research program in disease ecology, will contribute to a proposed new interdisciplinary initiative at Auburn University to address environmental resilience and global health, and foster interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations with scientists at Auburn University, as well as other institutions and government agencies. Teaching responsibilities will include both undergraduate and graduate courses, focusing on disease ecology and the candidate's specialty areas. The selected candidate is expected to contribute to the One Health graduate certificate program at Auburn University.
Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in wildlife, ecology, biology, environmental/public health, or related field, and expertise in the ecology of infectious diseases (particularly those that are zoonotic) in free ranging vertebrates at the time employment begins. Possible areas of research expertise include field-based epidemiology, eco-epidemiology, applied eco-immunology, climate change science, socioeconomics, bioinformatics, arthropod-vectored disease ecology, public health, pathobiology, and other disciplines related to the ecology and emergence of infectious diseases in humans, animals, and ecosystems. Some examples of skills and/or focal areas that are of interest include vector-borne disease ecology, global change and disease dynamics, urban disease ecology, experience with rodent or tick-based systems, experience with artificial intelligence in research, and/or a connection to public health. Experience working within interdisciplinary teams and a proven track record of publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals is required. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
