An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our friendly team.
The Fernhurst Centre provides outpatient services for haematology and oncology patients including systemic anti-cancer treatments and supportive medical therapies.
The successful applicant will preferably have post qualification experience and preferably be competent in cannulation and IV drug administration. They should have a keen interest in cancer care and be willing to undertake training in the administration of systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT).
The unit is dedicated to maintaining high levels of clinical practice and we support staff in the development of their learning and education.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the delivery of safe and effective nursing care and treatment for patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy, medical and supportive treatments or undergoing medical investigations on The Fernhurst Day unit.
To ensure individualized and effective standards of care to a group of patients in line with Trust policy, values and the NMC Code of Conduct. This may include taking charge of the day unit in the absence of more senior nursing staff.
Job responsibilities
* To assess, plan, evaluate and implement care required.
* To use a range of clinical skills to ensure timely treatment/intervention.
* To assist with patient flow within the unit including elective/emergency admissions.
* To give advice, information and support to patients and relatives receiving treatment.
* To mentor and work alongside junior staff/student nurses.
* To manage, co-ordinate and delegate workload accordingly to minimize patient waiting times and provide efficient delivery of treatment and follow-up care.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* SACT qualification or prepared to undertake training within 6 months of appointment.
* Current UKONS SACT Passport.
* Post registration experience in acute clinical setting.
Registration
* Current NMC Registration.
Knowledge, Training & Experience
* Current competency in administration of intravenous medication or willing to undertake at point of recruitment.
* Current competency in the administration of blood products or willing to undertake at point of recruitment.
* Current competency in venepuncture and cannulation or willing to undertake at point of recruitment.
* Interest in Cancer Care.
* Experience in the delivery of SACT.
* Experience in haemato-oncology nursing.
* Experience within UHSussex.
Skills
* Ability to empathize, support and provide reassurance in difficult situations.
* Experience in pre-procedure patient assessment.
* Able to demonstrate ability to liaise with MDT and escalate appropriately.
* Sage and Thyme communication course.
Information Resources
* Experience in patient data entry systems.
* Familiarity with electronic prescribing systems.
* Experience with Aria prescribing system.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 a year per annum pro rata.
