Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers a countywide Diabetes and Endocrinology service in a variety of clinic-based locations.
You will be working with a fully established specialist diabetes nurse team, dietetic specialists, and specialty doctors. The lead Band 7 Specialist Nurse Diabetes will support your induction and offer regular supervision. You should also be able to evidence consistent development of your knowledge to provide patients with advanced treatment options.
Additional working pattern details: Working in countywide sites.

Main duties of the job:
The candidate should communicate effectively and actively participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings to aid patient care, joint treatment sessions, case conferences, and specialist interest group meetings.
Established knowledge and skills in the field of diabetes are essential. You will utilise diabetes specialist skills and competencies to encourage patients to self-manage, maximize rehabilitation potential, ensure understanding of medication, and manage diabetes as a lifelong diagnosis. The candidate should show good leadership skills, be responsible for mentoring junior staff, and help them achieve and maintain competencies.
The candidate will manage countywide outpatients through clinics, including administrative activities such as dictating letters and organizing patient follow-ups. You will use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan, and offer a range of treatment options, deliver, evaluate, and amend the treatment plan, and make recommendations for appropriate and timely management in an outpatient and inpatient setting. You will also support admissions to and discharges/transfer from the hospital.
Work closely with the Lead Nurse, Matron, and Clinical Lead to ensure the operational delivery of high-quality care, clinical safety, and effective clinical governance, ensuring appropriate cross-county cover for diabetes nursing care within given resources.
