Health Care Support Worker - Critical Care

If so, we have an exciting developmental opportunity for you in Adult Critical Care. Whether you are an experienced healthcare support worker (HCSW) or just starting out, our HCSW role will help you to take the next steps in your healthcare career.
Critical Care comprises of three units that often work closely to meet our patient's needs: NCCU, JVF D3 ICU, and D4 ICU. We care for a variety of complex critically unwell surgical, medical, neuro, and trauma patients from across the region.
As a HCSW within critical care, you will be instrumental in supporting the registered nurses and multidisciplinary team with delivering high quality, compassionate care.
If new to the trust, you would start your journey by completing your care certificate and trust HCSW core competencies, while becoming familiar with the critical care HCSW role and environment.
Once you have completed these, you will then be supported to undertake the Critical care band 3 HCSW upskilling programme, which will provide you with the training and development necessary to allow you to undertake enhanced skills such as wound care/ANTT, tracheostomy care, ECG's, venepuncture & cannulation, catheterisation, and many more.
Please note you will be required to undertake a Functional Skills Test as part of your interview assessment. You will need to pass this in order to proceed to a Conditional Offer. This is applicable if you are not currently working as a HCSW at CUH.
Main duties of the job
To assist in promoting patient care and other departmental duties that support the clinical team in providing a safe and efficient environment suitable for caring for critically ill patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Literacy and numeracy Level 2
* Completed Trust and band 2 competencies if internal applicant
* Diploma level 2/3 in Care/Health or other relevant qualification
Experience
* Proven clinical practice within an acute setting as a Band 2 HCA
Skills
* Well-developed verbal and written communication
* Respects patient dignity, wishes, and beliefs demonstrating behaviours that are caring and compassionate
* Ability to promote best practice
* Support and induct new junior colleagues and assist them to meet their performance standards
* Work as an effective and responsible member of the multidisciplinary team
