A friendly and inclusive Specialist School in Reading is looking for a Child Mental Health Assistant to support their students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The pupils have a range of difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression, attachment disorders, and behavioral issues. The students therefore need a Mental Health Assistant who is understanding of their needs, proactive, and ready for a challenge!
As a Child Mental Health Assistant, you will help support the students throughout the school day, aiding their academic learning as well as their interpersonal skills. You will follow therapeutic practice and help each child to regulate their own emotions and cope with the mental challenges they face on a daily basis. You will also provide general assistance to the class teacher and help liaise with on-site Psychologists and Therapists to ensure each child is getting the most out of their education.
The pupils in this school have extremely complex needs and therefore require a Child Mental Health Assistant who is open-minded, resilient, and knowledgeable about mental health. The perfect candidate will have experience working with children or vulnerable adults. Graduates who have qualified in Psychology, Criminology, or Counselling would be ideal for this position.
The school has small class sizes to allow for greater 1:1 time between pupils and the staff. The school also focuses on promoting inclusivity and diversity in every aspect of school life. It encourages the development of appropriate social skills and positive behavioral choices through restorative and therapeutic practices.
