PGI's Senior Infrastructure Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of our IT infrastructure. This position combines technical expertise with hands-on implementation, proactive system management, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will work closely with the IT team and business stakeholders to deliver robust infrastructure solutions that align with organisational goals. What you’ll be doing: Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure infrastructure solutions using primarily Microsoft technologies, with flexibility to incorporate others based on professional judgement. Develop and maintain detailed documentation and standards for infrastructure architecture. Lead the technical design and implementation of new infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with business goals, minimising IT support issues, and addressing business pain points. Prepare project quotes, including cost and time estimates, and liaise with suppliers to secure the best-fit products and preferential pricing by leveraging market knowledge. Collaborate effectively with the Lead Infrastructure Engineer, Head of IT, and rest of the IT department, providing expert guidance, contributing to technical discussions, and fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. Share knowledge to upskill team members and ensure alignment with IT competency goals, while challenging decisions to ensure technically sound outcomes. Manage and maintain core infrastructure components such as servers, storage, and networking equipment to ensure availability, performance, and security. Implement and oversee backup and disaster recovery solutions, including regular testing. Serve as a point of escalation for complex support issues. Contribute expert input to security policies and procedures to protect company data and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with standards like Cyber Essentials and ISO/IEC 27001. Conduct security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate risks, keeping the Head of IT and Head of Risk & Compliance informed of new and resolved vulnerabilities. Plan and implement resolutions for findings from third-party penetration tests, documenting actions taken. Collaborate with the IT Support team, business units, and external vendors, confidently representing infrastructure expertise. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide updates on projects and initiatives. Provide data for reports on infrastructure performance, issues, and improvements, and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, particularly within the Microsoft ecosystem. Impart knowledge to relevant teams and individuals while identifying opportunities for process improvements. Analyse existing platforms and systems to understand their functionality and interoperability, recommending and implementing enhancements to optimise efficiency and effectiveness. Lead initiatives to automate and streamline infrastructure management tasks, building business cases to balance benefits against competing priorities. On day one you will bring: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Microsoft-based on prem & SaaS infrastructure engineering. Comprehensive expertise in Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra, Defender XDR, and Microsoft 365 administration, with additional experience in SharePoint and/or Purview being highly advantageous. Extensive knowledge of switching, routing, firewalls, virtualisation (Hyper-V/Azure), block and/or blob storage. A proven track record of successfully leading infrastructure projects from initiation to completion. Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Relevant industry certifications are highly valued. The role offers support for obtaining certifications, with dedicated training and development time provided.
