As one of the leading private client teams in the Midlands, our compassionate and knowledgeable specialists provide advice and support spanning all aspects of wills, probate, tax and trusts.
Due to continued successes, we are now looking to hire an additional Will Writer to join our busy tier 1 team, based at our offices in Derby.
The Will Writer will be responsible for the creation of wills on behalf of the Wills, Probate, Tax and Trusts team.
Taking client instructions from a number of different sources; primarily from face-to-face meetings and home visits, you will be drafting a range of wills from basic and mirror wills to those of a more complex nature (this includes property trusts, exclusion of family members and those with multiple beneficiaries).
Where appropriate, the Will Writer will assist other fee-earners in the team, manage workloads using the case management system and complete associated administrative tasks.
This role reports directly to the Head of Wills, Probate, Tax and Trusts and is full time, Monday to Friday based at our head office in Pride Park.
Key Responsibilities
1. Take instructions from clients in relation to the drafting of wills, this will initially be via a telephone enquiry through to face-to-face meetings, video calls via Zoom/Teams/FaceTime/WhatsApp/Skype and home visits.
2. Advising on most appropriate will and lasting power of attorney.
3. Drafting wills and ancillary documents and correspondence.
4. Preparing and registering LPAs.
5. Telephone enquiries.
6. Progressing matters by communicating where necessary with clients.
7. Closing files and registering documents.
8. Manage time each week to allow for client meetings and the office-based preparation of wills following receipt of client instructions.
9. Work with the wider Wills team to ensure that all requests are carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the department SLAs.
10. Liaise with the administration team to ensure the case management system and will bank is kept up to date.
11. Ensure financial targets are met.
12. Ensure that all firm-wide and departmental SLAs and procedures are followed.
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
1. Experience in a will writer or paralegal role in a wills, probate, tax & trusts departments in a legal setting.
2. Excellent client relationship skills.
3. Sound drafting skills.
4. Have a sound knowledge of IT systems and processes, such as the Microsoft suite.
5. Be a hard-working and highly-motivated individual with the ability to work cohesively as part of a larger team.
