Job overview
We are looking for a doctor who can provide expertise in orthogeriatric and peri-operative care for older people undergoing surgery. At the Royal Oldham Hospital, we are a surgical hub for the Northern Care Alliance. The post holder would provide care for patients on the orthogeriatric unit as well as on vascular, general surgery and urology.
This is an exciting time to join the division as you will be part of a hospital and medical department currently undergoing a period of innovation and development. We are developing our offer to provide specialist care to our older patients in inpatient settings, virtual community beds in patient’s homes and on an in-reach basis. The Trust is also part of the Acute Frailty Network and is currently on an improvement journey to increase and improve the care and outcomes we offer our patients within Oldham.
There is a significant general medical component to the job, which you will be required to contribute to. You will be involved in many aspects of elderly care including Dementia care, Acute frailty, in reach and virtual wards.
A substantive or 12 months fixed term contract will be considered.
The post is being offered at 10PAs with 1.25PA as GIM on call, with opportunities for additional leadership and governance commitments. We support part-time and flexible working arrangements.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, management, and treatment for patients with a broad spectrum of complex geriatric medicine needs.
Act as an expert resource for medical, nursing and other health care professionals across the Trust footprint.
Be an active champion of high-quality medicine for older people both locally and across the region.
The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge and development of services.
For a substantive appointment, the postholder must have:
* Full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practice
* Be on the specialist register for Geriatric Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine
* Or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.
Experience of working in a team delivering peri-operative care for older people undergoing surgery or a dedicated orthogeriatric service would be desirable. Mentoring and support from the existing consultants will be available to help you grow in this role.
If you would like to work in a dynamic, caring, inclusive and forward-thinking environment where innovation is welcomed, then we would welcome your application.
