Modini Ltd in partnership with the University of Bath is looking for a driven PhD graduate with relevant engineering skills who will be able to utilise experimental testing and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to design, develop and manufacture a new family of low-cost, high specification micro gas turbines to power the next generation of uncrewed airborne systems (UAS). This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project is an exciting and rare opportunity that will bring together knowledge of aerodynamics and heat transfer to deliver optimised turbomachinery design. This new knowledge will ensure reduced manufacturing and operating costs to enable scalable production for UAS markets and micro-power grids. About the role As a KTP Associate, you will lead this high profile and strategically meaningful project, allowing you to apply your academic achievements in an industrial setting. You are expected to have the confidence and ability to manage your own workloads to ensure outputs, including leading on meetings. You will receive practical and formal training, gain marketable skills, broaden your knowledge and expertise within an industrially relevant project, and be supported by both industrial and academic mentors. You will be responsible for engaging with and embedding new knowledge within both the business partner and the University. Modini Ltd is an innovative UK technology company that has grown rapidly by specialising in the design, prototyping and manufacture of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) and associated sub system technologies in addition to consultancy and design engineering for propulsion. The ideal candidate will have: A PhD in relevant subjects for gas turbine development or extensive R&D experience within industry; Experience with modelling and simulation using tools such as GasTurb and Matlab Simulink; Experienced in CFD modelling/assessment; Experienced in CAD (Solidworks preferred); Strong practical capabilities to develop prototypes; Ability and confidence to engage with a range of stakeholders; Agile and flexible approach to project delivery.
