Our NHS Orbital Prosthetists love their jobs. As part of this exciting opportunity, you will receive full ‘in-house’ training in specification, assessing, fitting, and aftercare for NHS artificial eye wearers.
This role is fixed term for 12 months and will be made permanent on successfully completing 'in-house' training.
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to undertake the training to become an Orbital Prosthetist with the NHS National Artificial Eye Service (NAES).
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake and successfully complete the comprehensive 'in-house' training provided by the NAES training team.
Once trained, you will specify, assess, fit, and adjust artificial prostheses, and provide aftercare to patients referred by Consultant Ophthalmologists and other NHS colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Reporting to the NAES Clinical Services Manager, duties will include:
1. Providing specialist treatment to artificial eye patients in various settings.
2. Specifying, ordering, assessing, fitting, and adjusting artificial prostheses.
3. Successfully navigating the comprehensive ‘in-house’ training.
4. Undertaking ongoing in-service training and supporting research and development objectives.
5. Frequent travel and overnight stays as per service delivery needs.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Minimum 5 GCSEs including English, Mathematics, and Science at Grade C / 7 or above.
* Evidence of further education towards ‘A Level’ standard.
Experience and Employment History
* Employment in a patient/customer-facing role.
* Evidence of transferable skills from previous occupations.
* Dentistry or Healthcare background.
Skills, Knowledge & Ability
* High level of attention to detail with accuracy.
* Evidence of accurate documentation and adherence to policies.
* Knowledge of materials & equipment used in dentistry or prosthetics.
* Evidence of art/craft skills and technology usage.
Personal Attributes
* Superior colour vision assessed via testing.
* Excellent general vision unaided or corrected.
* Strong verbal, written, and technology-assisted communication skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a remote team.
