About the Role
The CCTV Operator is an essential part of Trafford’s community safety team, responsible for the continuous monitoring of public spaces via the Council’s Control Room. Working closely with the Community Safety and CCTV Team Leader, you will play a direct role in protecting public areas, deterring crime, and supporting the police and other emergency services. By responding swiftly to incidents, directing resources, and assisting in identifying offenders, you will help to reduce anti-social behaviour and enhance public safety, giving peace of mind to Trafford’s residents.
As a CCTV Operator, you will monitor the Council’s CCTV systems, respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls, and work alongside Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to ensure timely, effective responses to incidents. Your responsibilities will include maintaining accurate records, handling out-of-hours calls for various council services, and supporting the Council’s emergency response plans.
This role requires a vigilant, proactive, and dedicated individual who is ready to make a real difference in the community. As a first point of contact for a range of incidents, you will be central to Trafford’s mission to create a safer, more secure environment for all.

With a strong sense of responsibility and a proactive approach, you’ll be able to monitor CCTV footage effectively, respond swiftly to incidents, and collaborate with partners to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
You’ll need to remain calm under pressure, make quick decisions, and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including the police and other emergency services. A high level of attention to detail and accuracy is essential for maintaining records and reporting incidents clearly and efficiently.
As a reliable team player, you’ll work well within the Council’s community safety team and will be comfortable liaising with colleagues, GMP, and other agencies to achieve the best outcomes. Excellent IT skills will help you operate the CCTV system effectively, record information accurately, and contribute to reports that support community safety goals.
With a dedication to creating a safer environment, you’ll bring professionalism, vigilance, and integrity to this important role.
