Registered Nurse - Blood Donation (Central South)

Your role with us will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside a Band 6 Nurse to apply and develop your valuable professional clinical knowledge. You will also develop your leadership skills to successfully deliver and contribute to continuous service improvements. Working in a fast-moving and variable environment, this essential role in the collection of blood and blood products will directly contribute to saving and improving patients' lives.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse, you will use your clinical skills and knowledge to assess donor suitability to donate, ensuring donor and product safety, in line with regulatory and governance standards. Duties include:
1. Supporting the Sister/Charge Nurse in organising session activities to ensure staff, donor, and product safety, deploying session staff to ensure that donor throughput is efficient and customer-focused.
2. Obtaining and maintaining proficiency in all core blood/component collection skills including venepuncture and deploying these skills when working on session.
3. Acting quickly and immediately in the event of emergencies or other unexpected events on the session.
4. Being responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance, and evaluation of donor care, in line with NMC and NHSBT codes of conduct.
5. Leading by example, providing guidance to the collection team to deliver excellent donor care and service through confident clinical leadership.
6. Communicating confidently, effectively, and succinctly any clinical/operational issues in relation to the donation session that may require escalation and action from management.
7. Ability to travel between Blood Donation Centres and community venues in a timely manner during the working day. You will not be required to work night shifts, but you will be required to work variable hours including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (which must be maintained in the role).
* Evidence of commitment to continued learning and development and application in practice.
* Completion of training for additional clinical skills including venepuncture and Basic Life Support (BLS) or ability to obtain.
* Willingness and ability to develop management, coaching, and mentoring skills necessary for leading and managing a team.
* Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
* Ability to travel between Blood Donation Centres and community venues in a timely manner during the working day.
Experience
* Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of patient safety initiatives and strategies and risk management.
* Competence in the use of computers and electronic communication systems or expectation to develop existing skills further as the needs of the service dictate.
* Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of good customer care and the ability to respond to the needs of service users/patients.
