We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Fixed Asset Accountant to join our finance team! You’ll be responsible for keeping our fixed asset records accurate and up-to-date, in line with YH Group policies and accounting standards. You’ll manage the fixed asset register, ensure the related ledger accounts are in good shape, and take care of the accounting for property sales.
You’ll also have line management responsibility for our Assistant Asset Accountant, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll play a key role in keeping our financials on track.
What we’re all about
You might think of Yorkshire Housing as ‘just’ a housing provider. We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and our mission is to make it possible for current and future customers to have a place they’re proud to call home. We’re all about the customer, and our service doesn’t stop once the keys are in the door.
What will you be doing?
This is a key role within the team as our assets make up the largest portion of the balance sheet. The volume and complexity of the asset base means the role is both high-stakes and hands-on. With a focus on component accounting, you’ll need to be someone who can manage this complexity, stay organised under pressure, and ensure everything is accounted for accurately. The right person will play a key part in maintaining the integrity of our financials, making this role central to our success.
You’ll also be focussing on:
* Looking after the accounting and reporting for property sales – whether it’s operating or non-operating, including open market sales, shared ownership (staircasing included), and strategic disposals.
* Reconciling the fixed asset register to the general ledger every month.
* Making sure all additions and disposals of fixed assets (both housing and non-housing) are accounted for in the month they’re completed or sold.
* Accounting for the capitalisation of major works and make sure any components being replaced are written off properly.
* Overseeing the capitalisation of intangible assets and give advice on the right accounting treatment.
* Getting stuck into the annual budget prep, including putting together budgets for depreciation and capitalised interest.
* Keeping track of forecasts and preparing regular updates for the areas you're responsible for.
This is a home-based role, though you’ll need to be able to travel into our Leeds workspace an average of once a month for meetings and depending on business need.
Who are we looking for?
The answer is simple - if you are hardworking, driven and ready for a new challenge, we want to hear from you.
The rest would also be great too –
* Fixed asset accounting experience, ideally within social housing
* Working knowledge of the Housing SORP, FRS102 and accounting standards in respect of housing fixed assets
* High level of numeracy
* Excellent attention to detail
* ACCA, ACA, CIPFA or CIMA qualified
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills and the ability to proactively manage your deadlines
* Strong interpersonal skills and able to collaborate with others
* Great communication skills
