The post holder will be responsible for using a wide range of complex ophthalmic equipment to capture images/data to the highest possible quality and accuracy.
After a successful training period, you will be expected to have the skills and knowledge to undertake a large range of diagnostic imaging procedures. With experience, you will be able to utilise your own initiative to suggest appropriate imaging for the patient.
Main duties of the job
They will be responsible for communicating effectively with a wide range of patients; some with mobility issues, hearing issues and language comprehension issues etc. They will uphold a reassuring and calm manner, ensuring imaging processes are explained fully to the patient, and proper positioning at the device is considered at all times.
They will ensure we run a highly co-ordinated service by liaising with the whole Ophthalmology team and other professionals as required. They will work to agreed protocols and actively contribute to the continuing adaptation/improvement of the way we work. They will be confident working independently and will be expected to prioritise and plan their own workload; the post holder should demonstrate proficiency in the assessment, planning and order of tasks.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake all aspects of the following Imaging and diagnostic modalities and tests:
* Corneal Topography
* Retinal and Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
* Blue Peak Auto Fluorescence imaging
* B-Scan Ocular Ultrasound
* Clarus widefield imaging
* Biometry
* Visual Fields
* Pachymetry
* Tonometry

This post may include weekends and evening sessions to meet service developments. We are a three site Trust and the successful candidate will be expected to work across site in line with service demand.

Experience
* Experience within a health care setting
* Interest in photography
* Working as a member of a team
* Knowledge of Ophthalmic pathology
* Previous Ophthalmic imaging experience
* Experience within an ophthalmic setting
* knowledge of ophthalmic imaging equipment
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3/ A Level qualification in a relevant science or photography subject (or equivalent or equivalent experience)
* Photography qualification or equivalent
* Ophthalmic Imaging course and CPD
* Ophthalmic vision and science qualification
Interpersonal Skills
* Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills within the team and with patients
* Demonstrate a caring manner with an understanding disposition.
* Willingness to mentor other members of the team
* Knowledge of dealing with public/conflict.
Organisational Skills
* Ability to manage own workload and works well under pressure.
* Flexible and willing to work across site.
* Knowledge of hospital organisational structures and software.
