Introduction
A vacancy has arisen for a professional Senior Mechanical Engineer at BAE Weapon Systems UK, within the research and technology team. The role involves designing, developing, manufacturing, and supporting artillery systems, naval guns, and other weapon components.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading development of technical solutions within project teams.
* Designing solutions based on requirements, validating and verifying designs.
* Reviewing and checking design work and reports.
* Conducting technical analysis and investigations.
* Planning and monitoring projects and work packages.
* Documenting design development through formal reviews.
* Developing weapon subsystems and optimizing weight.
* Ensuring designs meet quality and technical standards.
* Performing technical investigations and supporting calculations.
* Integrating sub-systems and supporting testing and trials.
* Participating in bid preparations and reviews.
* Managing interfaces and ensuring safety and manufacturability.
* Preparing technical drawings and supporting quality assurance.
Educational requirements:
Degree in mechanical engineering with 3+ years postgraduate experience or HNC with 5+ years relevant experience.
Essential skills:
* Analytical and report writing skills.
* Good communication skills.
* Experience with CAD (preferably PTC Creo).
* Background in weapons systems or military design.
* Structural/stress analysis skills (MS Excel, Mathcad, FEA tools).
* System control experience (Matlab/Simulink).
* Knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques.
