Job overview
The post holder will be a member of the specialist community Early Intervention in Psychosis leadership team who will hold responsibility for the caseload management of the team alongside delivery of NICE guided clinical interventions. They will be a Clinical Team Manager and line manage a defined staffing group and hold responsibility for ensuring compliance to statutory training, annual appraisal and staff supervision. They will be required to liaise with other local agencies including Tier IV inpatient and specialist services, as well as the Mental Health Liaison Team and the home treatment team.
Referrals to the team are accepted from a wide range of professionals and agencies and the post holder will be responsible for the flow in and out of the team and allocation of cases to care coordinators and support staff.
Families of the referred young people are included in the assessment and on-going management of the cases. This will include the use of a range of approaches e.g. psychodynamic, behavioural, cognitive and psychopharmological, as appropriate, within the overall framework of the multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
1. To demonstrate clear leadership and support the team members and clinicians in providing clinical management and support to develop the care and treatment of people with mental health problems in the community to receive the best possible care, maximising engagement and improving outcomes.
2. Undertake professional supervision and caseload management for an agreed number of registered professionals within the integrated hub site.
3. As the senior clinician in the team, working alongside the Clinical leads, ensuring the skill set and expertise of individual clinicians is appropriate to the needs of the case load they manage. This will include supervision and appraisals as appropriate, ensuring it is in line with Trust/Directorate standards.
4. Demonstrate decision-making and problem solving skills as a senior member of the team.
5. To support the team in developing and building effective communication between community services, wider mental health services and with other agencies and services.
6. To take appropriate lead action with regard to complaints and reportable incidents within the service as directed by the Trust’s complaints and reportable incident policies.
7. To contribute to and lead on the implementation of local and national objectives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Provide expert clinical leadership to the team, ensuring delivery of effective clinical expertise and advice to the team in the community, including the provision direction and participation.
2. To manage and take responsibility for a defined caseload and ensure full compliance with the care coordination, Vulnerable Adults and all other policies at all times.
3. To ensure a culture of care is evident with the Community base where clinical staff enables and empower service users.
4. Provide professional supervision to an agreed number of staff within the teams.
5. Provide expert support to staff in:
1. Completing needs assessment to service users.
2. Risk assessment and management.
3. Crisis planning and management.
4. Assessing and responding to patient/ carer’s needs.
5. Care planning and review of service users’ care.
6. The step down or transfer of care and discharge.
6. To assist young people/adults to achieve maximum independence through the use of care programmes, which are culturally sensitive, individualised, safe and consistent with accepted practice.
7. Ensure that each Service User in his/her care receives an individual assessment and is given a regularly updated care plan which, wherever practicable, is formulated in conjunction with the Service User and approved by their supervisor.
8. Fully implement all agreed care plans and ensure that they are regularly reviewed and updated.
9. Use a range of evidence based approaches to care for appropriate Service Users.
10. Provide information and support for carers and families.
11. To manage the more complex cases within the team and authorise care packages at the request or direction of the Operational Lead.
12. To supervise other team members as required by the Hub manager.
13. Ensure effective and skilled clinical interventions are provided to service users to meet their specific needs.
14. Ensuring clinicians are competent, purposeful and provide outcome focussed interventions.
15. Utilise an evidence based approach to negotiate and manage clinical opinions and discussions within the team.
16. Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 are met and that patient’s rights under the MH act.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Professional qualification – RMN /Occupational Therapist/ Social Worker/ RNLD Qualification
* Post registration training in a treatment modality to diploma/ degree standard such as CBT
* Relevant post graduate study or be able to demonstrate further skills based training.
* Nurse Prescribing
Knowledge & Experience
* Extensive post registration experience in mental health care
* Use of therapeutic interventions with young people & adults i.e. 1:1, CBT, family therapy and group work.
* Advanced knowledge of treatment techniques and interventions.
* Previous experience in mental health or experience of working with adolescents/ young adults within an EI Setting.
* Good Knowledge of recognised disorders and illness in the field of mental health
* Understanding of a range of communication styles when working with young people, young adults and families in distress.
* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
* Developing policies and protocols
