Responsible for the management of staff, processes, and workload of the Pharmacy Homecare teams on a day-to-day basis to ensure a safe, effective, timely and high-quality patient centred service is provided at all times. To provide direction, leadership, management and development of staff and services in the homecare arena.
To manage the strategic development and alignment of Homecare services for NBT across the Hospital group, ensuring all Trustwide policies are current with relevant legislation. Ensuring that NBT Homecare services are underpinned with excellent governance standards as set out in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) standards for Homecare services.
To review established Homecare services and respond innovatively and proactively to the changing demands of Homecare services, to provide assurance that services are managed in line with best practice, contractual agreements, and national guidance.
Responsible for ensuring all Homecare Contracts meet the needs of NBT Patients and the organisation. Actively leading on the interest of NBT at Regional and National contracting meetings.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the management of the Homecare team and the operational day-to-day purchasing of Pharmaceutical Homecare products, including authorisation of computer and manually generated orders in keeping with Procurement and Homecare contracts in line with Local, Regional and Nationally agreed standards.
Responsible for managing service provision issues such as prioritisation of work according to patient urgency which is driven by clinical need and service requirements to ensure patients' treatment is not delayed.
Responsible for producing monthly KPI reports on quality and financial indicators on all Homecare services.
Works with multidisciplinary teams to identify, plan, and develop new opportunities for homecare services, produce timetables for new service/system implementation, ensuring deadlines are met that have been agreed with all key decision makers.
Monitors current and anticipated demands for Homecare services to ensure the Homecare team has operational capacity to safely and effectively co-ordinate and manage Homecare services. Prepares business cases for service development, presenting reports and findings to senior colleagues as required.
Ensures that NBT NHS Trust Homecare services are of a consistently high standard for patients by regular liaison with key individuals involved within the service areas including pharmaceutical industry and Homecare companies.

Responsible for implementing new policies for Homecare services in line with Regional and National requirements, Carter metrics and National Homecare Medicines committee (NHMC) approved standards and processes.
To ensure all financial transactions and statements of account are processed appropriately and in reflection of contract pricing to meet NHS terms and conditions and minimise any debt.
Liaise with the Trust Finance Department regarding queries relating to Homecare payments and Homecare suppliers.
Identify medicine savings opportunities and cost improvement programmes (CIPs) for pharmacy and to contribute to the wider organisation and commissioner savings targets.
Responsible for co-ordinating service review meetings for homecare medicines services working closely with homecare companies, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, and other healthcare staff.
Develop policies and processes to introduce Pharmacy Technicians clinically screening of homecare prescriptions.
Participate in clinical screening of homecare prescriptions in line with agreed Trust policies and SOPs.
Work with the multidisciplinary teams to switch patients to generic medicines or biosimilar medicines to deliver best value money to the Trust.
Undertakes computer file maintenance to ensure all National and Regional contracts are adhered to.
To investigate any incidents, complaints, near misses, and deviations relating to Homecare services to identify any risks or areas for improvement.
To lead on any identified improvement plans in response to incidents, complaints, near misses or deviations.

Education/Training/Qualifications
Essential
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy Services, or a recognised equivalent qualification
* Registration as a practising pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Recognised current Accredited Checking Technician qualification
* Leadership and Management level 3
* Evidence of continuing CPD
Desirable
* Recognised Procurement qualification such as CIP's
* Recognised Technician Homecare Screening Accreditation
* Recognised Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation Training Programme including Clinical Prioritisation unit
* MHRA GDP trained
* Prince 2 Qualification or similar project management qualification
Work Experience
Essential
* Current/recent management of an Acute UK Hospital Pharmacy team ideally a Pharmacy Procurement and/or Homecare team.
* Minimum 5 years post qualified experience working as a pharmacy Technician in an Acute UK Hospital, of which a minimum of 2 years' experience of a supervisory/management role at Band 6, or above
* Extensive experience of managing a team of both registered and non-registered staff (3 or more members in team)
* Specialist knowledge and clear understanding of current Pharmacy practice and Homecare Legislation.
* Experience developing and reviewing policies and procedures
