Overview
Do you want to join East Midlands Chamber and represent our members as a Non-Executive Director? To support our succession plan, the Board of Directors is seeking additional Non-Executive Directors to join them.
Accountable to the Chair of the Board of Directors, you will act as a representative of the Chamber’s membership in regard to sector, geography, and size of business.
This is a non-executive role and is unremunerated. Expenses can be claimed for supporting Chamber activities as a Director of the company.

Key areas of responsibility
* Provide unique attributes that contribute to the development and progression of the Chamber.
* Support and challenge the Executive Team to meet the needs of its members, customers, and the wider business community.
* Review the Chamber’s performance against the Business Plan and budget on a regular basis.
* Undertake and accept all fiduciary duties and responsibilities as determined by the Chamber’s Articles of Association.
* Facilitate development of East Midlands Chamber policies.
* Work collectively with other members of the Board to give direction to the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of the Chamber.
* Be an effective ambassador and advocate of the Chamber.
* Consider and approve the Annual Report and Statutory Accounts for presentation to the members at the Annual General Meeting.
* Participate at all Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting.
* Participate in one or more committees or sub-groups of the Board, possibly on a rotational basis (to experience all aspects of the Chamber’s business), including taking on the role and responsibilities of chairing such committees or sub-groups.
* Discuss and develop the Terms of Reference of such committees/consultative forums/focus groups/working groups as are required for the efficient operation and development of the Chamber and review regularly their performance and continued relevance.
* Support the activities of the Chamber in any way they are able.
Applicants will possess
* Excellent diplomatic skills and demonstrate good political awareness.
* Experience of dealing with businesses and an understanding of their needs.
* Knowledge, understanding, and experience of central and local government.
* Proven ability to think and act strategically.
The Chamber is particularly seeking applications from Chamber member business leaders in the following sectors as a component of the Board’s succession plan:
* Financial services sector (with a view to succession as Chair of the Risk & Audit Committee over the next 18 months).
* Bolstering manufacturing representation on the Board.
* Bolstering international trade expertise on the Board.
* Green technology and decarbonisation sector.
To maintain geographic representation across the Board, applications are also sought from North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire Chamber member business leaders.
