Mechanical Fitter, Ayrshire, Salary from £40,000 to £41,000 per annum A leading engineering business is seeking Skilled Mechanical Fitters to join our Kilmarnock site. This role involves delivering high-quality mechanical services on rail vehicles and rolling stock, with opportunities to work across the UK and Ireland. Full-time, 40 hours per week (Mon-Thu 7:30am-4:30pm, Fri 7:30am-1:30pm). Responsibilities: Perform overhaul, maintenance, examination, and repair of rail vehicles and rolling stock. Strip and rebuild safety-critical components (e.g., bogies, brake actuators, axles) per technical drawings. Conduct fault finding and repairs on mechanical systems. Remove, overhaul, refit, and test door gear. Complete accurate paperwork and work instructions as part of a collaborative team. Promote positive working relationships with colleagues, customers, and external agencies. Adhere to company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Undertake additional duties as required during business peaks and troughs, demonstrating flexibility. Ideal Candidate: Time-served with accredited qualifications, ideally from a rail or heavy vehicle maintenance background. Proficient in completing accurate records and following procedures. Knowledgeable in health and safety practices, including bio-hazards, manual handling, and COSHH. Preferably experienced in mechanical modifications (MODS) on rail vehicles and reading engineering drawings. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve issues. Responsible for the care of tools, equipment, and PPE. Experience with rolling stock modifications is advantageous.
