An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Builder Team Leader at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Team who are responsible for the maintenance and meeting legal compliance levels at our City campus. You will provide a professional service to the building team who form part of our in-house maintenance team providing a safe and pleasant environment for staff, visitors, and patients alike.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide the leadership to our building team who maintain NUH properties at the City campus site. This can be either in the form of reactive tasks or pre-planned maintenance to ensure statutory compliance is met. You will be required to organise their day-to-day work tasks or activities along with planning and organising shutdowns of critical services with Ward Managers/other Managers when working in these occupied areas. Along with this, there is the occasional necessity to use external contractors to carry out larger projects where the management of sensitive financial details will be required. The applicant must have significant experience related to construction and minor new work and building maintenance work in large organisations along with experience in leading and developing a team. The post holder will be expected to be guided by standard operating procedures, good practice, and be able to understand what results and standards are to be achieved.

The post holder will be required to make judgements involving facts or situations, some of which require analysis of options to determine the best course of action, e.g., problem-solving and recognition of relevant building, drainage, roofing, flooring, and structural defects. Following suitable training and subsequent appointment by an Authorising Engineer, act as Authorised Person as laid out in Health Technical Memorandum for the appropriate discipline. Through toolbox talks, group sessions, and one-to-one instruction as appropriate, cascade to your team the training and information received, i.e., health and safety, water safety precautions, statutory guidance, and technical procedures. Canvas the ideas and concerns of team members to inform and aid safe and efficient management and feed into departmental committees/senior estates management as appropriate. Administer and be responsible for good timekeeping and staff discipline. Maintain accurate records of staff annual leave and sickness, ensuring that adequate staffing levels are maintained. Order or requisition all necessary spare parts for planned maintenance, new work, and also for plant/service breakdowns. Liaise with the Estates Stores over stock and stockholding levels. Take part in the department's on-call rota to help provide 24-7 support to ensure service is uninterrupted.

Training & Qualifications
Essential
* Qualified to HNC Level or City & Guilds Part 2 in Building Craft Studies with suitable experience.
* Served recognised apprenticeship or equivalent form of structured training that is accepted by the profession.
* ILM Team Leader Award or equivalent level of experience of working in a supervisory role.
Desirable
* Trained to undertake Authorised Person duties.

Essential
* Extensive experience in the construction and maintenance of buildings and associated systems and equipment together with a comprehensive level of theoretical and practical knowledge across specialist hospital buildings.
Desirable
* Experience of supervisory maintenance work in a large acute hospital setting.
