With a strong proficiency in English, both written and verbal, you are capable of writing detailed reports, managing cases autonomously, and working in a variety of complex contexts, including mental health issues, domestic abuse, and substance misuse. A social work qualification such as DipSW, CQSW, or a degree in social work, and registration with Social Work England are essential. A comprehensive understanding of relevant laws and procedures, coupled with a commitment to ongoing learning and development, is crucial. The role requires a good breadth of experience attending and testifying in court proceedings and a commitment to working within legal and ethical frameworks. What the Job Involves The Senior Practitioner position in Children's Services involves managing a caseload of complex cases within child protection contexts, often involving court work. You'll work collaboratively with families and the wider professional network to support children in need of protection, using the Signs of Safety practice model. Responsibilities include leading child protection inquiries, conducting holistic assessments, implementing child-focused plans, and representing the local authority in a professional manner. Regular supervision and reflective practice are essential to this role, alongside the willingness to mentor junior staff and support the team’s development. You will play a key role in ensuring that plans are in the child’s best interests, actively involving families and coordinating support services.
