Greenway operates a Total Waste Management division which offers a full-service solution from site visits and sampling to container supply and transportation. Greenway is part of GRG Waste UK, a waste to resource management company, headquartered in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. In the UK, GRG has become a market leader for hazardous and liquid waste, driven by the principles of sustainability; over 80% of waste received is either recycled or recovered.
The Package
* Starting salary is £22,000 - £25,000 (Dependant on age & experience) per year
* Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm (1 hour lunch break).
* 20 days annual leave (increasing by 1 day per year on completion of 2 full years’ employment to a maximum of 25 days) plus UK bank holidays

What will I be doing as a Laboratory Technician Apprentice?
Greenway Environmental is pleased to offer you the opportunity to earn a salary while studying towards nationally recognised qualifications through our Level 6 (degree) Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship.
This position will require you to work within the Laboratory at Redfern St, Bootle.
This is a hands-on role involving analysis of incoming waste loads, preparation of outgoing waste load bulk compatibility analyses, and identification of accurate and correct analysis for waste streams. Training and support will be provided wherever necessary, and other duties on site may be required as necessary.
* Ensuring full compliance with the site permit
* Waste acceptance inspection and testing to determine identification and disposal/recycling routing
* Compliance with HSE segregation guidelines
* Safe operation of laboratory equipment and safe handling of all waste chemicals
* Waste analysis utilizing techniques such as XRF, flashpoint testing, bomb calorimetry, Spectro photography, dewar compatibility testing, and more
* Recording of all analysis information accurately and promptly
* Ensuring a clean and tidy work area is maintained
* Preparation of sample reports to assist the Laboratory Manager

This programme is designed to enable existing team members or new recruits to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to fulfil their vital role. Once you’ve qualified, you’ll be eligible to join the Register of Science Technicians (RSciTech) through an appropriate industry body.
This apprenticeship offers an exceptional platform for you to enhance your leadership skills and take on more significant responsibilities. Successful apprentices may be fast-tracked into senior and management roles.
Furthermore, there is potential for transition to permanent roles as Laboratory Chemist, Site Chemist, Technical Assessor, Business Development, and Site Management.

Experience
While previous experience is great, we’re also looking for someone with the right attitude and aptitude to fit in at Greenway Environmental.

* Willing to get involved with the outdoor sectors of the business.
* Not afraid to get your hands dirty.
* Full UK Drivers License preferred but not required. However, you must be able to commute to the location within 45 minutes via Public Transport.
* You must hold a relevant A level (Chemical Science) or previous experience of working in a laboratory.
