Technical Sales Engineer
Background:
My client designs and manufactures engine, e-motor, power train, vehicle, and component test systems at their brand new facility in Worcester. The company was founded in 1982 and is undergoing a period of growth and change to meet the demand of its global client base.
My client supplies test systems ranging from new control and data acquisition systems & products for existing test cells to turnkey test cell projects, complete with dynamometer, engine/test piece conditioning systems, test cell ventilation, and services systems.
My client's customers include many automotive manufacturers (including first-tier suppliers) and race teams, as well as industrial equipment manufacturers and, more recently, the shift to E-Vehicle and hydrogen technologies. Currently, approximately 40% of our turnover is in the U.K., with the balance in India and the USA, and a small amount in mainland Europe and China.
The Purpose of the Role:
Reporting to the Head of Sales & Applications, the role will require the development of fully costed quotations and technical proposals, along with the ability to develop both commercial and technical relationships with new and existing clients. Included in the role is the identification of new clients and the generation of new leads and opportunities.
You will be a capable individual that is self-motivated with technical sales experience and looking to advance your career. Ideally, you will be qualified to a minimum of HNC/HND in an engineering discipline with more than 5 years' experience in an engineering-related industry. An automotive background would be an advantage but is not essential.
Technical Expertise:
1. Develop a deep understanding of the company's products or services and stay updated on industry trends.
2. Innovative solutions are the key to my client's success as a bespoke solutions provider; this is not a catalogue sales role.
3. Compile costs for standard products.
4. Update and, where necessary, create the library of technical data sheets for standard products, accessories, services, and support data.
5. Presentation and communication skills are essential to success in this role.
Customer Engagement:
1. Collaborate with internal teams to understand customer requirements and propose appropriate solutions.
2. Attend trade shows.
3. Although you will be based out of the head office, you may be required to travel throughout the UK and potentially overseas.
4. Be present in sales meetings with your colleagues, providing technical support to assist with the closing of deals.
5. Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, quotes, and responses to RFQs (Request for Quotations).
6. Address customer inquiries and concerns related to product functionality, integration, and technical specifications.
7. Establish and maintain strong relationships with key customers, understanding their business needs and challenges.
8. Visit customer sites for sales and promotional purposes.
Collaboration:
1. Collaborate with internal teams, including Sales, Service, Projects, and Production, to ensure a cohesive approach to customer engagement.
2. Work closely with Engineering and Standard Product departments to ensure that the technical database is kept up to date.
