Maintenance and Contracts spend circa. £25 million annually, repairing and improving a retained housing stock of around 8000 properties and 15 sheltered schemes to our local “Ipswich Standard”. The Council takes a holistic approach to stock management and has one seamless service that is now responsible for everything in connection with the asset management of that stock. This involves everything from the initial design to completing works on site on a right first-time basis using our own directly employed trade teams and external contractors. You will play a critical role in the Building Surveying team delivering its operational objectives that will make a difference to the councils housing tenants. Maintenance and Contracts has an opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join our busy team dealing with a varied and diverse residential portfolio of properties within the borough of Ipswich. Day to day You will be expected to manage your own time flexibly and effectively, whilst working with a larger team of professional people undertaking various building surveying works and involvement with projects. About you As a Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for delivering a number of key objectives using robust techniques and governance. You must have excellent communication skills, a sound understanding of building surveying techniques and related issues within the industry, a good understanding of relevant Health and Safety and an awareness, strong numerical analysis and analytical thinking. You will be required to demonstrate up to date knowledge of technical issues related to the construction and maintenance of buildings, determine their condition, identify and analyse defects, including proposals for repairs, advise on energy efficiency, environmental impact and sustainability of buildings, ability to use a wide range of ICT operating systems. Ideally, you will be educated at degree level or working towards this and have three years qualitative experience. You will need key skills in: Experienced in Building Surveying Health and Safety ICT Procurement (preferable) Experience in a similar environment Hours of work are 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday and you will be based at Gipping House, Hadleigh Road Industrial Estate, Ipswich.
