Equipment Engineering Technician
Location: Bedford
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 DOE
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Shifts: Rotating early and late shifts, supporting 24/7 operations
We are hiring on behalf of a leading manufacturing client in Bedford for an experienced Equipment Engineering Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing advanced machinery used in semiconductor processing, ensuring high uptime and optimal performance in a cleanroom environment.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the manufacturing team, diagnosing complex faults, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain greater than 80% uptime for key process tools in a semiconductor manufacturing environment.
* Diagnose and repair machine tool PCBs to component level, ensuring minimal downtime.
* Provide direction to technician-level personnel and offer support to Manufacturing Shift Leaders.
* Collaborate with Process Engineers and Equipment Engineering Supervisors to evaluate and improve equipment performance.
* Identify and implement cost-reduction projects while enhancing equipment reliability.
* Assist in the planning and scheduling of project activities, both short-term and long-term.
* Conduct repairs and maintenance tasks, including mechanical setups and working with tools containing acids, following safety procedures.
Skills and Experience:
* Minimum HNC/HND qualification in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or Material Science, or equivalent education and experience.
* Proven ability to fault-find and repair PCBs to component level.
* Background in electronics with a demonstrated capability to repair complex machines.
* Experience with wafer fab processes and cleanroom environments is advantageous.
* Familiarity with Epitaxy, Ion Implant, and Passivation process equipment is a plus but not essential.
* Knowledge of 6S/Kaizen methodologies.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a track record of implementing practical solutions.
