Job Overview
The successful applicant’s main clinical role in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical work at middle grade level in the department and to supervise members of the junior medical staff on a continuous basis (as outlined in the job plan).
Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities:
* Perform duties at the middle grade level in the Emergency Department, managing the initial assessment and treatment of acutely ill and injured patients across a wide spectrum of presentations.
* Provide clinical advice and support to junior medical staff and trainee nurse practitioners, ensuring high standards of patient care.
* Participate as a key member of the Trauma Team and fulfil the role of nominated Resuscitation or Paediatric doctor of the day, as scheduled.
* Engage in the management of diverse cases, including life-threatening medical and vascular emergencies, limb-threatening injuries, and the complex needs of elderly patients.
* Work collaboratively with other departments such as the Acute Medical Unit, Ambulatory Care Unit, and Intensive Care to ensure comprehensive patient management.

* Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM)
* Simulation and Teaching
* Management & Leadership
* REACT (Responsive Emergency Assessment & Community Team)
* Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Medicine
Person Specification
Experience
* Previous experience relevant to the specialty
* Clinical governance/audit experience
* Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
* Out of hours experience relevant to job
* Experience in the specialty beyond ST3 or equivalent
Skills
* Practical skills in relation to the specialty
* Proven ability to work in different clinical settings
* Organisation and planning
* Empathy and sensitivity
* Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
Knowledge
* Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality

* ALS Provider Certificate

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment
* Evidence of achievement of ST1 & ST2 competencies in Emergency Medicine at time of application
