This placement will be for a period of 12 months commencing in Summer 2025. This is an office based role in Oldham, Greater Manchester. The Role Overview As a Mechatronics Engineer (Placement Student) you will work with our team of experienced Engineers to deliver on providing mechanical & electronic solutions to reduce product related issues and eliminate further product defects reported at production stages in UK and China. Whether you’re working autonomously or alongside our engineers, you’ll have an opportunity to showcase your skills while taking responsibilities on projects and their development. We give our placements the ability to demonstrate their understanding of their specialist subject while getting invaluable industry experience. Your Responsibilities Design and prototype jigs and fixtures for new and existing products to aid increased productivity amongst the Production teams in UK and China Investigate all engineering end of line product issues, providing solutions by eliminating defects and suggesting/ improving right first time (RFT) Produce detailed SOPs in collaboration with the wider Production Engineers to standardise processes across the production operations in UK and China Working with the Continuous Improvement and Materials team by acquiring product samples from the suppliers and performing investigation analysis to support in reducing ongoing product issues Act as the engineering expert in the design stage of NPI project meetings, emphasising the design for manufacturing (DFM), design for testing (DFT) and design for assembly (DFA) for both mechanical and electronic components CAD modelling including step and 2D/3D files update based on customer specifications required for machining Creating new designs or modifying existing designs on Teamcenter, to generate 3D modelling and 2D drawings using CAD software for machining requirements Your Skills & Experience Competent in the use of 2D/ 3D CAD modelling software, with the ability to read and interpret drawings Electronic circuit design and simulation for consumer and industrial markets, with appreciation of firmware requirements and limitations Be able to read and write in programming codes. e.g. Phyton PC Literate, experience of utilising Microsoft Office packages, to write reports and present your findings to others Ability to adapt and work well under pressure on multiple tasks Good communicator, both written and verbal Ability to build and sustain good relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
