* Compensation: $19.25-$27.00/hour, DOE
* Housing: TBD – furnished apartment or monthly rent reimbursement
* Start Date: March 2025
* End Date: May 2025 (with possibility of extension)
* Additional Details: Technician must provide own suitable footwear, binoculars, and appropriate clothing. Vehicle and data collection tools will be provided by WEST.
Job Summary:
* Conduct ground-based lek surveys for prairie grouse during the spring breeding season.
* Assist on standardized avian use point count surveys (audio and visual).
* Opportunity for additional field work may be available based on project needs and candidate qualifications.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or equivalent preferred.
* Proficient use of topographic maps, compass, and other field equipment preferred.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt to changing timelines and project needs.
* Comfortable operating 4X4 vehicles in rough terrain; experience operating side-by-side is ideal.
* Ability to work independently and interact professionally with project managers, clients, landowners, and other technicians.
* Follow survey and safety protocols, ensure data accuracy, and demonstrate secure data handling.
* Previous experience conducting avian use surveys preferred, or proficiency in identification by sight and sound of:
o 1) eagles (all species and age classes),
o 2) diurnal raptors, and
o 3) Midwest and grassland bird species.
Physical Requirements:
* Applicants must be in good physical shape, as surveys will be conducted in extreme conditions.
* Field work entails long hours of standing and observing in varying terrain.
After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check. A valid driver’s license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
