We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our Special Schools team in Sheffield, providing high-quality occupational therapy care to children with a range of conditions in both school and community settings for 12 months.
You will work across two schools, contributing to both school life and therapy sessions. It is a rewarding role, with the chance to make a difference in the lives of children and their families.

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Special Schools Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:
1. To provide a high standard of occupational therapy care as a member of the occupational therapy, physiotherapy and multi-professional teams within the Special School service.
2. To perform routine occupational therapy assessments of children and young people presenting with different conditions and problems within the schools and family home.
3. To provide a diagnosis of the problem related to occupational therapy.
4. To develop skilled knowledge to deliver an individualised treatment programme for each young person.
5. To manage a delegated caseload of children and young people within the schools team, working under supervision.
6. To undertake all aspects of clinical responsibilities as a developing autonomous practitioner and access the advice, training and support from more senior occupational therapists and multi-disciplinary team members.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* HCPC registration
* Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Portfolio evidence of reflective practice
* An under-graduate case study, essay or dissertation on a paediatric topic
* Good overall clinical record / profile
* Membership of the RCOT
Experience
* Experience of team working
* Undergraduate clinical placements in paediatrics
* Experience of working with children, either professionally or socially
* Evidence of extra responsibilities taken at undergraduate level
* Involvement in audit, research or service evaluation.
* Experience of working in special education.
* Experience of working in paediatrics
Knowledge
* Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
* Knowledge of clinical governance and its implications for services
* Awareness of own limitations
* Understanding of family / team dynamics and how to develop working relationships with all involved in the child’s care
