The Mobile Communications business in Poole supplies on-board GSM-R equipment and other engineering solutions to rail industry operators and suppliers worldwide. This includes the GSM-R cab radio with GPS and 4G connectivity and the GSM-R data radio. We have earned a respected reputation in the industry which has developed as a result of our success in delivering to our customers. In addition, we are leading the way within the railway industry in developing the next generation of rail communications (Future Railway Mobile Communication System), based on 4G and 5G technology, so this is a great time to join the business in the development of a new, exciting technology.
You'll make a difference by...
* You will complement the hardware engineering team in completing hardware engineering workpackage(s). Each workpackage will be defined in terms of budget, timescales, and scope. This may include technical management of subcontractors.
* You will design electronics at both sub-system and PCB level and take those designs through the full life cycle, culminating in supporting them when they are in the field.
* You will take those systems through the full type approval process including EMC and Environmental testing which is normally carried out at UKAS accredited test houses in the South of England.
* You will have systems engineering responsibilities including provision of correct and timely technical and engineering input to projects and bids. You will be capable of contributing in a hands-on manner to all phases of an engineering project; including systems analysis and design, implementation, validation and test, and engineering support to site commissioning.
* You will manage the creation of BOMs (Bill of Materials) in our SAP system and preparation of products for building in one of Siemens factories.
* Occasionally, you will assist with sales engineering responsibilities, including provision of technical and engineering solutions for bids and tenders and be capable of dealing well with customers and suppliers when required.
You'll win us over by...
* Holding a HND, Degree or Equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Experienced in developing electronic systems.
* Being an innovator and problem solver.
* Having a can-do attitude to development.
* Having the ability to design at PCB level and enter into CAD (with appropriate training on the use of CAD software).
* Being able to test and fault find at PCB and sub-system level.
* Experience taking products out to independent test houses and resolving issues (with the support of others as necessary) to achieve type approval of products.
* Having the ability to work with mechanical engineering teams to produce products.
* Experienced in working with software engineering teams to assist in hardware/software integration.
