If you have experience working with children facing behavioural challenges, trauma, or mental health difficulties and are determined to help them overcome barriers to learning, we want to hear from you About the Role: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will provide tailored support to students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams, you will help implement individualised strategies that promote academic progress, emotional resilience and social development. SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEMH needs. Implement de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies to support positive engagement. Work alongside teachers to deliver structured interventions tailored to individual learning plans. Support students in developing self-confidence, coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills. Encourage a positive, inclusive and structured learning environment. Assist in delivering a differentiated curriculum, ensuring accessibility for all learners. Monitor student progress and well-being, providing feedback to staff and parents when necessary. Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures, prioritising student welfare at all times. SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Job Requirements: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or SEND. A relevant qualification in education, child psychology, or a related field (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Psychology Degree, Youth Work certification). Strong communication and de-escalation skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships. A resilient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting students. An understanding of trauma-informed practices and mental health awareness (training can be provided).
